Freyssinet, Inc. and Hebetec Engineering provided
full-time on-site technical assistance and lease of heavy lifting equipment
needed to lift the new bridge from the assembly barges. Equipment was installed
on four (4) pairs of barge mounted temporary towers by the contractor.
Lifting the bridge some 70’ was completed in less than 5 hours. Once at
correct elevation, a system of winches and towboats precisely positioned
the bridge over its bearings. The structure was lowered using the same
strand jack system until contact was made with the bearings. The towers
were then dismantled and the equipment demobilized. The bridge is expected
to open to the public by early 2018.
